Why heat pump design matters more than the heat pump
Most heat pump problems aren’t the pump — they’re the design. An oversized unit short-cycles and wastes money; the wrong radiators leave rooms cold; a badly sited unit annoys the neighbours. Here’s how we get it right:
- Room-by-room heat loss calculation to MCS standards — never sized off floor area or the old boiler’s badge.
- Radiator and pipework check — if any radiators need upgrading, we tell you before installation and price it upfront. No surprises mid-job.
- Noise assessment and siting — every installation includes the required noise calculation, so your unit meets planning rules and keeps the peace.
- Gas Safe boiler removal by our own engineers — your old gas boiler is disconnected, capped and removed in-house by our Gas Safe registered team, not left to a third party.
- Fabric first — as insulation specialists, we’ll tell you if insulating first means a smaller, cheaper heat pump. Most heat pump installers can’t offer that. It’s our core trade.
- Full evidence pack at handover — design calculations, commissioning records, MCS certificate and warranties. If it isn’t documented, it isn’t finished.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme — £7,500 towards your heat pump (£9,000 if you’re on oil or LPG)
£9,000 for homes replacing oil or LPG heating.

Our Process
Free Survey & heat loss calculation
We measure your home properly (room-by-room heat loss, not a guess from bedroom count). This is what makes a heat pump work well or badly, and it's where cheap installers cut corners.
Design & Itemised Quote
System sized to your actual heat demand, with the grant already deducted and any radiator upgrades priced transparently. No hidden extras.
We apply to Ofgem for your grant
You'll get an automated email from Ofgem asking you to confirm consent. One click, done.
Installation
Typically 2–4 days for a domestic system, by our directly employed teams.
Commissioning & handover
Full testing, a proper demonstration of the controls, and your complete certificate pack.
Aftercare
Handover Pack
MCS certificate, DNO notification, all warranties, commissioning records and your signed performance estimate — everything a future buyer, surveyor or insurer will ask for.
Monitoring & Set Up
Your app connected and explained, so you can see what your system is doing from day one.
Tariff Help
We help you register for the Smart Export Guarantee and choose a competitive tariff (solar), or a heat-pump-friendly electricity tariff (ASHP).
Annual care plan (optional)
Yearly system health check, safety inspection, and a performance review comparing your real generation or running costs against your original estimate. Ask us for current pricing.
Installed by someone else?
We service, diagnose and repair solar and battery systems installed by other companies — including where the original installer has ceased trading.
So, Convinced?
EEH are experienced ASHP installers. We'll guide you through every step - from survey to finished home. All you have to do is reach out.
Air Source Heat Pump FAQ
-
How much does an air source heat pump cost after the grant?
The price after the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant depends on your home’s heat loss, your hot water needs and whether any radiators need upgrading — which is why we give a fixed written quote after a free survey rather than a headline price. Your quote itemises everything, including removal of your old boiler by our Gas Safe registered engineers.
-
Will a heat pump keep my home warm in winter?
Yes — a correctly designed air source heat pump keeps UK homes fully warm even in sub-zero weather. The key phrase is "correctly designed": we size every system from a room-by-room heat loss calculation to MCS standards, so it’s matched to your home rather than guessed.
-
Do I need to replace my radiators?
Sometimes — heat pumps run at lower temperatures than boilers, so some rooms may need larger radiators to deliver the same warmth. We check every radiator at survey and price any changes upfront, so nothing is sprung on you mid-installation.
-
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than a gas boiler?
A well-designed heat pump is far more efficient than a gas boiler — it moves heat rather than burning fuel — but whether your bills fall, and by how much, depends on your electricity tariff and how well your home holds heat. That’s why we give you a property-specific running-cost estimate in writing at survey, with the assumptions stated.
-
What happens to my old gas boiler?
Our own Gas Safe registered engineers disconnect, cap and remove your old boiler as part of the installation — it isn’t left to a separate contractor. As a Gas Safe registered company, we manage the whole switchover from gas to heat pump in-house.
-
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?
Usually not — most air source heat pump installations in England fall under permitted development, provided noise and siting rules are met. We carry out the required noise calculation on every job and confirm your planning position before installation.
-
Are heat pumps noisy?
Modern heat pumps run at roughly the volume of a quiet conversation, and correct siting matters more than the unit itself. Our design includes the formal noise assessment required under MCS rules, so your installation meets the standard and stays neighbourly.
-
Who certifies the installation?
Your installation is certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), which is required for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. [Insert the confirmed partner wording from Section 3.3 here.] You receive the MCS certificate, commissioning records and warranties in your handover pack.
