Cut Your Heating Costs by 25% — and Get £7,500 Towards It

Written by Emily | Jul 15, 2026 12:54:44 PM

Millions of homes across Europe have already switched to air source heat pumps, and they're set to be heating the majority of UK homes within the next decade. If you're still relying on a gas boiler, here's why it might be time to make the switch — and how the government will help pay for it.

What Is an Air Source Heat Pump?

An air source heat pump (ASHP) harnesses free, clean thermal energy from the outside air to heat your home. Because it only needs a small amount of electricity to do this, it's up to four times more efficient than a standard gas boiler. That efficiency translates directly into savings: households that switch typically cut their heating costs by 25%, while slashing CO₂ emissions by 75%.

In simple terms, it works a bit like a fridge in reverse — extracting heat from the outdoor air, compressing it to raise its temperature, and releasing that heat into your home before starting the cycle again.

The Benefits

  • Cost cutting — save 25% on heating costs and never pay another gas bill
  • Environmentally friendly — 75% fewer carbon emissions, with a lifespan of 15-20 years (longer than most gas boilers)
  • Good value — can add up to £8,000 to your property's value

Up to £7,500 Towards Installation

Through the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme, eligible homeowners can claim one grant per property — up to £7,500 towards the cost of installing an ASHP. The scheme is temporary and currently covers installations completed before March 2028.

You may be eligible if:

  • You own the property (including businesses, second homes, or rental properties)
  • You're replacing a fossil fuel heating system (oil, gas or LPG)
  • Your property has a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
  • You're not replacing an existing heat pump or renewable system

Fully Certified Installation

EEH-Solutions is an MCS-certified installer, so your ASHP is fitted to the right standards from day one — including guidance on the best system for your home, ongoing maintenance, and how to get the most out of your controls.
